God, babble and the fox

This morning was vocabulary. The list was small; the words were challenging. It took 90 minutes for three working as a team to look up each word and write out the definition and then use it in a sentence. They were quiet. They were patient. They were diligent and determined. It was an awesome show of intelligence and enthusiasm. I mean, really, when is the last time you were excited to look up 15 complicated words and write out the definition? Plus, come up with a sentence unique to you, in a unit of education that ranges from fifth through 12th grades? It. Was. Tough.

They did a few worksheets afterward and then we decided to get on YouTube for some worship videos. We cranked up the volume and then the kids demanded this new video that their friend Arin introduced them to just yesterday.

This video is SOOOOO stinkin' cute. I recommend you check it out, and then (like me), you'll be singing it and demanding that everyone "talk" like a fox. I've been randomly pulling weeds or washing dishes and Ryker runs up and sings, "What does the fox say?" and then I must answer.

Here's the best part. The song includes lots of "babble," one of our vocabulary words. We had trouble finding this in the dictionary. It's part of our history unit on the Tower of Babel. Arin decided after we did a little Internet research that connected babble to babies' early language that we should define it as "gibberish." She got a fist bump for that!

Isn't cool when God brings everything together like this? I love that He cares so much that we can have fun remembering the importance of a Bible story with a silly music video. And that it bonds us to Him and each other. It's the little things, you know.

Without further adieu, here is "What the Fox Says," with lyrics. Your life will never be the same.
